what is the career path to a business analyst consultant from sales

I am trying to plan my it path to set me up as a consultant for retirement.
I have worked as network infrastructure , security, hw/sw design install, pre-sales, sales, sales Mngt, and now run a sales division.
Always been in IT in some capacity. I am now. Seeing a large need for business analysts, Mngt consultants and gis techs and wondered how one would start down this path?
Any help would be appreciated
