My major is Computer science and technology, but I am not good at coding.

Now i work as a business analyst but I don’t know how i can improve and develop myself in this job so that I can make Business Analysis my career.

How To Improve My Business Analyst Career?

Learn and Do:

It sounds very simple, but the only way you will improve as a business analyst is to learn all you can about the position and then do it.

Before you can take action, you must know enough about what a business analyst does so you can create a plan for success.

Then, jump in and get experience. This applies to the beginner as well as the experienced worker who wants to achieve even greater excellence in his work.

Study To Show Yourself Approved – Knowledge Is Power:

The more you know about a subject, the more leverage, or power, you will have in that area.

If you want to succeed as a business analyst, you must first study, learn and refresh yourself about everything there is to know about business analysis.

You can find books at your local library or online. Find a book, or resource, about every aspect of the business analyst’s job.

This includes reading everything you can get your hands on about business analysts to learn about what is expected such as the responsibilities of eliciting information, analyzing, communicating and validating requirements.

Also read blog posts and publications from reputable sources such as the International Institute of Business Analysis (IIBA). Become familiar with BABOK. The Business Analysis Body of Knowledge (BABOK) is the collection of knowledge within the Business Analyst profession which reflects current generally accepted practices.

A Guide to the Business Analysis Body of Knowledge (BABOK) Guide is a good reference for business analysts.

Online training courses, such as found at the Business Analyst Boot Camp, are also an excellent way to stay on top of your game.

Another great resource for a business analyst is UML Distilled: A Brief Guide to the Standard Object Modeling Language by Martin Fowler.

The book will help you learn about using Unified Modeling Language (UML) diagrams. You will also want to brush up on your Information Technology (IT) experience and technical skills:

Technical Skills A background in Information Technology is very helpful for a business analyst because you will be expected to communicate with members of the IT team.

Knowing the intricate details of, or being good at coding, isn’t necessary. But, having a good understanding of terminology and a basic knowledge of computer languages is helpful for doing the job of a business analyst.

Early To Rise and Practice – Get Hands-On Business Analysis Experience:

The only way to get valuable experience as a business analyst is to practice what you have learned.

Once you learn as much as you can about being a business analyst, the next thing you will want to do is put your business analysis skills and knowledge into practice by volunteering for as much additional work in your office as possible.

Even if this means taking on extra work and not being paid for it. Do this with passion and show a good work ethic in the process.

The old saying, The early bird gets the worm, is not just talking about feeding elements of nature.

It refers to ambition. Arrive early to your job: Be the first one to come to work and the last one to leave.

You don’t have to change jobs or put your current job in jeopardy to gain this experience.

Look around, and start to ask how you can help right where you are, and make yourself even more valuable to the company you already work for.

In the process of gaining experience, don’t forget to network and form relationships with those around you.

Part of the excellent communication skill of a business analyst involves tact and the ability to be a facilitator.

Practice this as part of your experience building by reaching out to those around you.

Many jobs are acquired because the hiring party knew and trusted someone and was willing to give him a chance.

      It is the first and most important responsibility because the knowledge of business analysis will empower you.

    • Get Handson Business Analysis Experience

      The next thing that you need to do, is to put your business analysis skills & knowledge into practice by volunteering for as much additional work in your office as possible.

      This means that you will endeavor to be the first one to come to work and the last person to leave the office. Then use the additional time to take on as much business analysis work as you can get .. .whether you get paid for the overtime or not.

      It is only when you put your business analysis knowledge into practice that you will improve as a business analyst.
